Confessions of a Serial Dancer - by Trina

I pull the hood of my jacket over, half covering my sweaty face; I am exhausted. These are the confessions of a serial dancer.

SYTYCD Australia Episode 2 - Melbourne and Adelaide

February 4th 2008 10:13
WARNING: This is a mild hating rant post on the show, so if you get offended easily please keep reading.

After watching the second episode of SYTYCD, with auditions in Melbourne and Adelaide, I relived the passionate cries and rants of fellow dancers, frustrated by the nature of the "reality" show. Let's get it straight - there's no such thing as a "reality show", everything is orchestrated because there's too much money to be made or lost on letting go of your control on the puppets below.

When a friend of mine Geoff, aka Drumstick, was at the microphone for his verdict, and Matt asked if he had any tricks, I cursed like a m*****f***** and stomped my foot on the ground. Well, you gotta be entertaining, have personality, some tricks, good looking and be a relatively good dancer. It's just showbiz, that's the way it is. I'm not hating on the show, they don't claim to be looking for Australia's Best Dancer, but Australia's Favourite Dancer.

Watch out for my boys Luke, Don, Kharly, Johnny K, Josh... and many more talented Sydney dancers on Wednesday night.

I hate the fact that they have played up 'sob stories' and have not focused on the best dancers. They are just trying to appeal to the mass market. As dancers/teachers/choreographe rs like me I'm sure you would prefer to see amazing dancing rather than
hearing about someones fight to become a dancer. We have all been there, every dancer goes through hard times, thats just the way of a dancer. Injuries, rejection that's our life. I know that amazing dancers missed out becuase the were "TV boring" I just want to see the best dancers in Australia dancing!!

Well I know where you're coming from, but the main audience for this show aren't dancers and don't understand the trials and tribulations that dancers go through so it's there for entertainment, and for that emotional appeal of the show. Who knows, maybe it'll open some people's eyes a bit about dancing and inspire others out there.

I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to watch amazing dancing when the Top 20 starts their rounds
