She Got Game - International Bgirl Competition, Melbourne
March 14th 2007 03:46
I'm quite excited about this event. Being surrounded by bboys and attending bboy events where you see one or two bgirls competiting (if you're lucky), it's nice to get the female side of the bboy culture and not only are Freestyle Four holding one of the few bgirl events in Australia, they're going hard out.
With international guest judge Asia One (No Easy Props, U.S.A.) and special guest DJ Bles One (Massive Monkees, U.S.A.), with bgirls from all over the US, Australia and New Zealand competing, proves these organisers are serious about making this event one to outshine any other bboy event in Australia.
I hope this inspires more girls to take up breaking and that "She Got Game" will be the first in many more large-scale bgirl events in Australia to come.
SHE GOT GAME
In 2007, Freestyle4 Entertainment will present Australia's First International B-Girl Competition, 'She Got Game'. Female breakdancers (B-Girls) from around the world will congregate at RMIT University's Storey Hall Auditorium in Melbourne's CBD, on Saturday 5 th May 2007, to battle it out for the $5000 prize money and the bragging rights of taking out 'She Got Game'. This all ages event will run from 11:00am – 7.30pm. The day will include 2 on 2 B-Girl battles, DJs, MC & Dance Performances, Fashion Show, Graf Displays, Giveaways, Merchandise Stalls, Youth Hip Hop Forum & more.
Breakdancing is the original Hip Hop dance style and for the first time in Australia it will be brought to centre stage in all its glory by some of world's best B-Girls. Breakdancing is a highly skilled and energy-fuelled dance in which breakers 'battle' to win, judged on their ability to hit the beat of the music, their skills, and perhaps most importantly, their flava and style. This event will bring the International standard of this dance to Australia, with competitors coming from countries including the U.S.A., New Zealand and of course Australia.
The competition features guest judge B-Girl Asia One and DJ BlesOne flying direct from the U.S.A. Asia One being one of the most recognised and respected B-Girls in the world and member of crews No Easy Props, Zulu Kweenz and Essential Rockers, along with guest DJ BlesOne, DJ and member of world renowned breakdancing crew Massive Monkees. The day also features a free one hour Youth Hip Hop Forum from 11am including Asia One. There's no doubt Burn City will be set alight with an action packed day full of gravity defying moves and some of Hip Hop's best at the helm. Don't Miss Out Or It'll Be Game Over!
