Winners: Shakedown Urban Dance Competition Finals Melbourne 2006

October 29, 2006: Shakedown Urban Dance Competition Finals
I've done practically all the urban dance competitions in Sydney (and one in Melbourne) on state or national levels and let me say that the organisers Kazzum, WickidForce and the rest of the Shakedown crew did the most amazing job in organising out of ALL the urban dance competitions in this country.
The event ran so smoothly, professionally and was perfect in every way, except half of the seats at the Vodafone arena were empty. This is all due to the timing of the event - high school and uni exams, Jay Z/Rihanna/Ne-Yo concert on the same night, etc. Other than that, the crowd response was amazing and made up for the empty seats.
I didn't get to catch most of the performers since I was backstage with Caramell, but congratulations to the winners, all well deserved as far as I can see from the videos (shown below) and CDB went off! After all these years, they performed 5 or 6 tracks that the crowd were and weren't so familiar with, the most memorable being Gary Pinto's solo number and the group topping it off with Let's Groove.
I can't wait for next year which will be bigger and better, the people behind the scenes do what they do all for the love of dance and the support of the next generation of urban dancers, promoting them within the entertainment industry; they are creating more and more opportunities for young dancers in Melbourne who are constantly working in excellent conditions and with excellent pay. I only hope they bring it to Sydney soon!
3rd - Caramell (SYD)
2nd - Beatphonik (MELB)
1st - Rewind (MELB)

The other two teams pale in comparison.
I had to stop the video halfway with Caramell's performance 'cause I genuinely thought the music and choreography were dull, boring and mediocre at national level. Not sure who in that team selected the songs and the costumes for that matter, but can it get any cheesier?! I cracked up when the two chicks in the group did a break dance to Pharell's "She Wants to Move". It left me a little puzzled.
It's a hip hop dance competition not Rock Eisteddfod. The whole point is to deliver energy into the stage. From what I've watched, only REWIND did it brilliantly.
Trina...................I'm sure you would've done a better job for Caramell. Here's wishing you a speedy recovery. Tell Dario.........great advice. He should know a thing or two about sexual frustration.

Hey, what's Darrio up to these days?
I used to take up his dance classes in the city. I quit when he went through the same dull and boring routine three weeks in a row. My friend and I were mortified. By third week, he was loosing his cool with people and started yellin' at those he thought weren't putting out. I started foolin around. He didn't like that, but I just thought no dance teacher should teach the same mediocre routine unless he's preparing his students for a performance. Otherwise teach something new and exciting every time. It's the only way to motivate the class. And no it wasn't beginner's lesson . I took an intermmediate lesson with that dude and he didn't do his class any justice.

I think people make themselves stressed over things they have control over and don't do much to improve their situation. Hence Armageddon.
Darrio's slowed down his teaching, he's going around getting krump every now and then but he's hella busy with his first newborn, Kya Rai.
