Jamskating - Dancing on wheels
March 30th 2007 02:36
I came across this video in the Ozbboy forums and while dancers are split on the idea, I think it's fresh. Dance as an artform should be transposed and inspired by other forms, other styles so there's always variety, something new for each generation.
Jamskating can be traced back to 'shuffle dancing' in the 1930s, which saw a pair of skaters dancing in synchronization in rinks. Nowadays, with all the influences of disco skating in the 70s, jamskating has become a fusion of hip hop, funk, breaking dance styles as well as gymnatics, figure skating and modern dance.
I don't know of any jamskaters in Australia, and it might need a big push from a movie or something to get the movement going, if at all.
