Reality TV: Dancing On Ice
July 20th 2006 03:57
I'm not too fond of reality tv (although I admit "Paradise Hotel" kept me company those late, lonely nights when I would be cramming) and now it seems that the focus is on celebrities. Management must have thought, "how can we take reality tv to the next level? Ah, let's put the focus on well-known local personalities since more people are likely to watch and follow them than normal random fame-seeking people."
I never watched "Dancing With The Stars" and once in a while caught ABC's "Strictly Dancing", an amateur ballroom dancing competition which was quite good and very inspiring, except for all the attempts at Hiphop/Funk. Now in the spirit of the recent ice shows I've seen - Swan Lake on Ice, Disney On Ice - here's another reality tv show, "Dancing On Ice".
What impressed me was the range of celebrities, judges and partners for each contestant. I thrive on variety, and the mix of a cricketer, model, tv presenter, olympic swimmer, news host, another model, a (female) politician, footballer, Young Australian of the Year winner, and another model.

With all these dancing reality shows, I hope to see an increase in the amount of people not just wanting, but taking all kinds of dance classes for fun, fitness and whatever other reason. It's a much better alternative to the gym - don't you get bored on the treadmill? Walking for an hour and getting nowhere? Sure, you can watch tv or listen to music at the same time, but at least dancing helps you gain skills, rhythm, coordination and more.
Does anyone watch "Dancing On Ice"? I'd like to know what YOU think about the show.

Unfortunetely I have to admit I am one of those losers who watch Dancing with the Stars and Dancing On Ice. I suppose my interest in the ice skating is slightly different to others. I used to know one of the contestants and I want to see if they go well or make a fool of themselves...
