Crazy Japanese woman creative dancing on the street
September 15th 2006 00:00
I don't know what's up with this woman, but in this video she's out dancing on the streets of Shinjuku, when they close it from vehicle access on Sundays. From what I've read about her, she is somewhat skilled and terrifying at the same time. A blogger describes his observations of police intervention that caused her to "burst out in movements resembling the struggle of somebody drowning".
After some research I discover her name is Abe ‘M’ Aria and she performs interpretive dance that has "no technique, no meaning, no concept" all over Tokyo, not just in the streets but at cultural events. She's danced in places like Hungary, Poland and San Fransisco, running dance workshops since 1990. Random.
She has a website so anyone interested in learning from the possessed-like spirit can contact her. I can't read it because it's in Japanese.
Watch her and wonder if you had just wasted those 4 minutes of your life, or if it was an eye-opening experience that somehow made you want to try it yourself.
